Extended Warranty Claims
If your vehicle has an extended warranty or service contract, it may cover some or all of a transmission repair. The claim process can be confusing, and we help with it from start to finish.
Signs you need this
- Your vehicle has an extended warranty or service contract
- The transmission is slipping, shifting badly or showing a warning light
- You're not sure what your contract covers
- The warranty company asked for a diagnosis or a teardown
- You'd rather not handle the claim on your own
What we do
- Diagnose the problem and document what we find
- Contact the warranty company and send the claim information they ask for
- Work with the adjuster if they want to inspect the vehicle
- Explain what's approved, what isn't and what you'd owe, before any work
- Bill the warranty company directly when the claim is approved
- Road test before pickup
More about warranty claims
We work with most warranty companies, help with the full claim and bill the warranty company directly when the claim is approved.
How a warranty claim usually works
Every warranty company has its own rules, but most claims follow the same basic steps:
- Diagnosis: we find the cause of the problem. Some companies need the transmission partly taken apart to confirm the failure, and they may ask you to authorize that first.
- Claim: we contact the warranty company with the diagnosis and the estimate.
- Review: the company decides what your contract covers. Some send an adjuster to look at the vehicle.
- Approval: once the claim is approved, we do the work and bill the warranty company directly for the covered amount.
You're usually responsible for your deductible and anything the contract doesn't cover. We tell you what those are before any work starts.
What we can and can't promise
We can't promise a claim will be approved. That decision belongs to the warranty company and depends on your contract. What we can do is give them a clear diagnosis, answer their questions and keep you updated. Some companies also ask for maintenance records, so it helps to have your oil change and service receipts handy.
If a claim is denied or only partly covered, you still get a written estimate for the rest, and nothing is done without your OK.
Claims can take longer than a regular repair, because the work waits on the warranty company's review. When you call, have your warranty company's name, your contract number, your mileage and any maintenance records ready. We let you know where the claim stands along the way.
Questions about warranty claims
Do you work with my warranty company?
We work with most extended warranty companies. Call us with the name of your company and your contract number, and we'll let you know how it works with them.
Will I have to pay anything?
Usually you pay your deductible and anything the contract doesn't cover. Some companies also won't pay for the diagnosis or teardown if the claim is denied. We go over what you'd owe before any work starts.
What if my claim is denied?
Then it's your call. You get a written estimate for the repair, and you decide whether to go ahead. Nothing is done without your OK.
Do I need my maintenance records?
It helps. Warranty companies sometimes ask for proof that the vehicle was maintained, like oil change receipts. Having them ready can keep the claim moving.
