Transmission Rebuilds
A rebuild is the fix when a transmission has real internal wear or damage. We take it out, take it apart, find what failed and put it back together with new parts where they're needed.
Signs you need this
- Slipping that's still there after fluid and electrical checks
- No movement in Drive, Reverse or both
- Burnt fluid with metal or clutch material in it
- Harsh, late or missed shifts caused by internal wear
- Grinding or whining from inside the transmission
- A diagnosis that points to internal damage
What we do
- Remove the transmission and take it fully apart
- Clean and inspect every part
- Replace the soft parts, including friction clutches, seals and gaskets
- Replace worn or damaged hard parts, such as drums, gear sets or the pump
- Install a new torque converter
- Refill with the correct fluid and road test before pickup

A rebuild isn't always the answer. If the diagnosis shows the problem is fluid, a solenoid or a leak, we'll tell you that instead.
What a complete rebuild includes
An automatic transmission has two kinds of parts. Soft parts wear out with use: friction clutches, bands, seals, gaskets and O-rings. Hard parts are the metal pieces: gears, drums, shafts, the pump and the case. In a complete rebuild we replace the soft parts every time. We inspect the hard parts and replace the ones that are worn or damaged.

Why a new torque converter is included
The torque converter sits between the engine and the transmission. When a transmission fails, debris from the failure can end up inside the converter, and a converter can't be taken apart and cleaned like the rest of the unit. Putting the old one back in a freshly rebuilt transmission risks sending that debris right back through it. That's why a new converter is part of every complete rebuild.
Rebuild or replace?
Sometimes a remanufactured or used transmission makes more sense than a rebuild. It depends on the vehicle, how bad the damage is, what parts are available and how long you plan to keep the car. We lay out the options in writing so you can decide.
How the job goes
We diagnose first, then give you a written estimate. Nothing is done without your OK. If we open the transmission and find something that changes the job, we call you before doing anything else. When it's done, we road test it before you pick it up.
Questions about rebuilds
How do I know if I need a rebuild or just a repair?
A diagnosis tells you. We scan it, road test it and inspect it. If the problem is outside the transmission or is a single part like a solenoid, a repair is usually enough. If there's internal wear or damage, a rebuild is usually the right fix.
Does a rebuild come with a warranty?
Yes, rebuilds come with a written warranty. Terms depend on the job and the vehicle, so ask about the warranty terms for yours before you approve the work.
Do you rebuild transmissions for trucks and luxury cars?
Yes. We rebuild automatics in cars, SUVs, pickups and vans, including luxury models. Call with your year, make and model and we can tell you what to expect.
Will you call me if the job changes?
Yes. You approve a written estimate before we start. If we find something once the transmission is apart that changes the job, we call you first, and nothing extra is done without your OK.
