When a transmission is too far gone, or a rebuild doesn't make sense for the vehicle, replacing it with another unit is often the better call.

Every replacement starts with a diagnosis to confirm the transmission is really the problem. That step matters, because a new transmission won't fix a wiring or computer fault.
Your replacement options
- Remanufactured: a transmission that has been fully rebuilt to set specifications, usually with its own warranty from the remanufacturer.
- Used: a working unit from another vehicle. It often costs less, but its history is less known, so where it came from and its mileage matter.
- OEM replacement: a unit from the vehicle's manufacturer.
- Customer-supplied: you buy the transmission, we install it. Ask how warranty works when you supply the unit.
Steps that protect the new transmission
When a transmission fails, metal and clutch debris can end up in the cooler and cooler lines. If that debris isn't cleaned out, it can flow straight into the new unit. We clean out or replace the cooler and lines as needed. Many replacement unit warranties require this step.
Many newer vehicles also need a relearn procedure after a transmission is replaced, so the computer can adjust to the new unit and shifts feel right. We'll tell you up front if yours needs one and how it will be handled.
A replacement unit also has to match your vehicle exactly. The same model of transmission can come in versions that differ by engine, drive type and year, so we confirm the match before anything is installed.

You get a written estimate that shows which unit we're quoting and what's included. Nothing gets done without your OK, and if the job changes, we call first. We road test every vehicle before pickup, so you leave knowing it shifts the way it should.
Questions about replacement
Is a used transmission a good idea?
It can be, especially on an older vehicle or when budget matters most. The tradeoff is that you don't know exactly how it was treated. Where the unit came from, its mileage and any warranty it carries all matter, and we go over those with you.
Can I bring my own transmission?
Yes, we install customer-supplied transmissions. Make sure it's the correct unit for your exact vehicle before you buy. Ask how warranty works when you supply the part, since the unit's own warranty comes from wherever you bought it.
Should I rebuild or replace my transmission?
It depends on the damage, parts availability, the vehicle and how long you plan to keep it. After the diagnosis we lay out the options in a written estimate so you can decide.
