A rebuilt 65RFE is Chrysler's 6-speed rear-wheel drive and 4WD automatic, rebuilt in our Plantation, Florida shop. It is mainly for Ram 1500 owners with the 5.7L HEMI or 4.7L V8 who have the 6-speed and are dealing with slipping, harsh shifts or limp mode.

About the 65RFE
The 65RFE is a 6-speed version of Chrysler's RFE family, built on the 545RFE design and programmed to use six forward gears. It arrived for 2012 behind the 4.7L and 5.7L V8s in the Ram 1500, and it also went into the 2012 Durango and some 2012 and 2013 Grand Cherokees with the HEMI. From 2013 on, many Ram 1500s moved to an 8-speed, but the 65RFE stayed in plenty of HEMI trucks through 2018. Your VIN tells us which one your truck has.
Why the 65RFE wears out
Because it is built on the 545RFE, the 65RFE shares many of the same weak points. The overdrive clutch carries a lot of load in the upper gears and wears fastest in trucks that tow. The solenoid switch valve and its bore in the valve body wear over time, which causes cross-leaks, low pressure and torque converter lockup problems. The solenoid pack can fail and drop the truck into limp mode. Heat from towing and hauling breaks down the fluid and speeds up every one of these problems.
Rebuilt, used or reman for a Ram 1500
Most used 65RFEs come from Ram 1500s with high miles, and many of those trucks towed. The worn valve bores and overdrive clutch can't be checked from outside. A remanufactured unit is built to a general spec. We VIN-check your truck, since 6-speed and 8-speed Rams look alike from the outside, then rebuild the 65RFE in our Plantation shop with a reconditioned valve body, new soft parts, a torque converter matched to your engine and worn hard parts replaced. Pick it up at the shop or have it shipped by freight.

How do I know if my Ram 1500 has the 65RFE or the 8-speed?
Many 2013 to 2018 Ram 1500s came with either one, depending on trim and options. Your VIN tells us which transmission your truck left the factory with, and we check it before any build.
Is a 4x4 65RFE different from a 4x2?
Yes. The rear housing and output differ, since the 4x4 version bolts to a transfer case. We build the one your VIN calls for.
Will my truck need a relearn after install?
Some units need a relearn or programming after install; we'll tell you if yours does. Chrysler units typically get a quick learn with a scan tool.
How do I get a rebuilt 65RFE?
Order and pay online, and we VIN-check the order before the rebuild starts in Plantation. Pick it up at 631 S State Rd 7 or have it shipped by freight. A refundable core deposit applies.
