About the AB60E and AB60F
The AB60 is Toyota's 6-speed automatic for its full-size V8 trucks and SUVs. The AB60E is the rear-wheel drive version and the AB60F is the 4WD version. It went behind the 5.7L V8 in the Tundra and Sequoia for well over a decade, behind the 4.6L V8 in the Tundra, and into the Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 570 before those moved to an 8-speed. It is a strong, proven unit built for towing, and many Tundras run a long time on the original. Most failures come from heat, old fluid and a worn converter.
Why the AB60 fails
The best-known AB60 issue is torque converter shudder. At light throttle and moderate speeds, the converter clutch slips instead of locking cleanly, and it feels like driving over a grooved road. The AB60 is sensitive to fluid condition, and old or wrong fluid leads to solenoid and valve body problems, jerky downshifts and soft first gear engagement. Tundras that tow in Florida heat wear through fluid faster than most. Once the converter clutch starts to break down, it sends friction material through the valve body and clutch packs, and a fluid change is no longer enough.
Rebuild vs used for a Tundra or Sequoia
Tundras and Sequoias stay on the road a long time, so used AB60s usually have high miles and a towing history nobody wrote down. The converter and valve body wear that causes most complaints can't be judged from outside. A remanufactured unit is built to a general spec. We VIN-check your truck, then rebuild the AB60 in our Plantation shop with new soft parts, a cleaned and inspected valve body, a torque converter matched to your engine and worn hard parts replaced.

Do I need an AB60E or an AB60F?
The E is rear-wheel drive and the F is 4WD, where the output bolts to a transfer case. Your VIN tells us which one, and we check it before the build.
Will a Tundra AB60 fit my Land Cruiser or LX 570?
Not necessarily. Calibration and details differ between the Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser and LX 570, and between engines. We build to your VIN so the unit fits.
Will my truck need programming after install?
Some units need a relearn or programming after install; we'll tell you if yours does. The transmission's learned values should also be reset with a scan tool afterward.
How does a rebuilt AB60 get to me?
Pay online, and we VIN-check the order and rebuild the unit in Plantation. Pick it up at 631 S State Rd 7 or have it shipped by freight. A refundable core deposit applies.
How long does it take?
