About the U660E and U660F
The U660E is Toyota's 6-speed transaxle for its 3.5L V6 in front-wheel drive cars and crossovers, and the U660F is the AWD version. Toyota's naming makes this easy: E is two-wheel drive and F is four-wheel or all-wheel drive. It went into the V6 Camry and Avalon, the Sienna, Venza and Highlander, and the Lexus ES 350 and RX 350. Like most modern Toyotas, it has no dipstick and was sold with long-life fluid, so many have never had a fluid change.
Why the U660 fails
The V6 makes a lot of torque for a front-drive transaxle, and first gear is low, so the unit takes heavy loads right off the line. Over time that can wear the case where the main gear train bearing support mounts. Torque converter shudder at highway speed is a common complaint. At higher mileage, bushings wear, clutch packs burn and downshifts turn jerky. The control module on the unit can also fail and set circuit codes. Old fluid that was never changed makes wear faster.
Rebuilt vs used for a Toyota or Lexus
Toyota owners tend to keep their cars a long time, so used U660s usually come with plenty of miles and fluid that was never changed. The case and bushing wear that causes trouble can't be seen from outside. A remanufactured unit is built to a general spec. We VIN-check your vehicle, then rebuild the unit in our Plantation shop with new soft parts, attention to the bearing support and bushings, a torque converter matched to your engine and any worn hard parts replaced.

U660E / U660F questions
Do I need a U660E or a U660F?
The E is for front-wheel drive and the F is for AWD, such as an AWD Sienna, Highlander, RX 350 or Venza. Your VIN confirms the exact version before we build.
Is the U660 in a Camry the same as in a Lexus?
They share a design, but calibration and some parts differ by model and year. We build the version that matches your VIN.
Will my car need programming after install?
Some units need a relearn or programming after install; we'll tell you if yours does. Toyotas usually need the transmission's learned values reset with a scan tool after a replacement unit goes in.
How do I receive a rebuilt U660E or U660F?
Pay online, and we VIN-check the order and rebuild it in our Plantation shop. Pick it up at 631 S State Rd 7 or have it shipped by freight. A refundable core deposit applies.
How long does it take?
Units are built to order. Most are ready about 4 to 6 weeks after payment. Need it sooner? Call us, we can often work something out.
