About the 6F35
The 6F35 is Ford's 6-speed transaxle for smaller front-wheel drive and AWD vehicles with four-cylinder engines. It replaced older 4-speed and 5-speed units around 2009 and went into the Escape, Fusion, Transit Connect and Lincoln MKZ, along with the Mercury Mariner and Milan and the Mazda Tribute. It was built for everyday commuting: small, light and efficient. Ford updated it over its life, so parts and controls can differ between early and late units, even in the same model. AWD versions add a power transfer unit on the side that drives the rear wheels.
Why 6F35s fail
Pressure is at the heart of most 6F35 problems. Wear in the valve body and weak pressure control solenoids let fluid pressure bleed off, which starves the clutches and torque converter. That creates heat, the friction material breaks down and debris spreads through the unit. On some later four-cylinder models, torque converter overheating led Ford to reprogram the powertrain computer. Wear at the driver-side axle bushing is another known concern that can cause leaks. Slow engagement and slipping are usually the first signs.

Used 6F35s are common, but the problems above live inside the valve body and clutch packs where you can't see them. A remanufactured unit is built to a general spec. We start with your VIN, since the 6F35 changed across years and engines. Then we rebuild it in our Plantation shop with updated valve body parts and solenoids, new soft parts, a torque converter matched to your engine and any worn hard parts replaced. It is built for your car, not just the model name.

6F35 questions
Does every Escape use the same 6F35?
No. The 6F35 changed across model years, engines and FWD or AWD setups. Your VIN tells us which version you need, and we check it before we start.
My Escape is AWD. Is the transaxle different?
AWD models use a power transfer unit that bolts to the side of the transaxle to drive the rear wheels. That changes the output side, and the VIN check covers it.
Will my car need programming after install?
Some units need a relearn or programming after install; we'll tell you if yours does. Ford also released software updates for some 6F35 vehicles, and a Ford dealer can look those up by VIN.
How do I get a rebuilt 6F35?
