About the 6R140
The 6R140 is the heavy-duty 6-speed automatic Ford designed for the 2011 Super Duty and sold under the TorqShift name. It sat behind the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel and the 6.2L gas V8 in F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups and chassis cabs through 2019. Despite the similar name, it is a very different and much stronger unit than the 6R80 in the F-150. It brought a big jump in towing ability over the older 5-speed, and many of these trucks still work every day.
What wears out in a 6R140
The torque converter is a common failure, and wear in the aluminum TCC boost valve is often behind it. Ford built several valves into the pump, and cross-leaks there and in the valve body drop pressure as the unit ages. Low pressure makes clutches slip, and the overdrive clutch pack takes the most abuse in trucks that tow heavy. On hard-worked or tuned trucks, the input shaft weld at the 4-5-6 drum can let go. Long pulls in Florida summer heat speed all of it up.
Used, reman or rebuilt
Used 6R140s mostly come from work trucks, and there is no way to check converter or pump health before you install one. A remanufactured unit is built to a general spec. We start with your VIN, since diesel and gas trucks use different setups, then rebuild the unit by hand in our Plantation shop. That includes a torque converter matched to your engine, new soft parts, updates for the known pressure and converter weak points and replacement of any worn shafts, drums or other hard parts.

6R140 questions
Is the 6R140 the same for diesel and gas trucks?
No. The 6.7L diesel and 6.2L gas versions use different converters, bellhousings and calibrations. Your VIN tells us which one to build.
Do pickups and chassis cabs use the same unit?
Not always. Chassis cab and pickup versions can differ, including PTO provisions on some trucks, and 2WD and 4WD outputs differ too. We build to your VIN so the unit fits.
Will my Super Duty need programming after install?
Some units need a relearn or programming after install; we'll tell you if yours does. If the truck is tuned, have the tune checked before it goes back to work.
How do I receive a rebuilt 6R140?
You pay online, we VIN-check the order and rebuild the unit in Plantation. Pick it up at 631 S State Rd 7 or we ship it by freight. A refundable core deposit applies.
How long does it take?
Units are built to order. Most are ready about 4 to 6 weeks after payment. Need it sooner? Call us, we can often work something out.

A refundable deposit added at payment. Send your old transmission back to the shop and we refund it to your card once it's checked in.
