About the 6T70 and 6T75
The 6T70 and 6T75 are GM's larger 6-speed transaxles, built for V6 engines in front-wheel drive and AWD vehicles. They came out of a joint GM and Ford program, and Ford's version is the 6F50. The 6T75 handles more load and went into the heavier three-row crossovers: the Traverse, Acadia, Enclave and Saturn Outlook. The 6T70 went into V6 versions of the Equinox, Terrain, Malibu and Impala. Like the smaller 6T40, the control module sits inside the unit on the valve body.
Why these transaxles fail
The early 3-5-R wave plate is the most famous failure. GM noted that some 2007 to 2009 crossovers could crack this part, which leaves the vehicle without 3rd, 5th and reverse. An updated plate followed, but it only helps if it was installed. The Traverse, Acadia and Enclave are heavy vehicles, often loaded with families and cargo, so the transaxle runs hot. Heat breaks down the fluid, glazes clutches and wears the torque converter. Many owners notice a harsh 1-2 shift or a shudder before the gears go.
Rebuilt vs used vs reman
Used 6T75s are easy to find because GM built so many of these crossovers. The catch is that many still carry the original wave plate or have spent years running hot. A reman is built to a general spec. Our rebuild starts with your VIN, then a full teardown in our Plantation shop with the updated wave plate, new soft parts, a torque converter matched to your vehicle and any worn hard parts replaced. For a three-row family vehicle you plan to keep, that gives you a known unit instead of a guess.

Which do I need, a 6T70 or a 6T75?
The heavier Traverse, Acadia, Enclave and Outlook use the 6T75, and many V6 sedans and smaller SUVs use the 6T70. Your VIN decides it, and we check it before the build.
My crossover is AWD. Is the transaxle different?
AWD models add a power transfer unit that sends power to the rear wheels, and the transaxle's output side differs from FWD versions. We build the version that matches your VIN.
Will it need programming after install?
Some units need a relearn or programming after install; we'll tell you if yours does. The control module is inside the transaxle, which is why this comes up with the 6T family.
How is the rebuilt 6T70 or 6T75 delivered?
Pay online, and we build the unit in our Plantation shop after the VIN check. Pick it up at 631 S State Rd 7 or have it shipped by freight. A refundable core deposit applies.
